WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Lauren Frye's 16 kills led Eastern New Mexico to a 3-0 sweep of Midwestern State Friday evening at D.L. Ligon Coliseum as the Greyhounds hit .261 while holding the Mustangs to a .087 hitting percentage.
Eastern New Mexico (13-10, 8-5 LSC) used an 8-5 run in the opening set to gain the momentum early and force an MSU timeout. The Greyhounds grabbed an eight-point advantage at 14-6 before the Mustangs mounted a 6-1 run following a kill from
Kiley Beaver to pull within three. However, ENMU would not allow the Mustangs to come any closer, ending the set on a 3-0 spurt to take a 25-17 win.
Midwestern State (11-14, 5-9 LSC) managed just a .026 hitting percentage in set two with 10 kills and nine attack errors on 39 attempts. The teams battled point-for-point early in the frame before the Mustangs went on a 6-0 run to take a 16-10 advantage. The Greyhounds would not go away so easily, eventually evening up the set at 19 apiece following a block by Brooklyn Biel. MSU fended off one set point at 24-23 with a kill by
Aerielle Edwards, but kills for Jennifer Martinez and Frye gave the set to ENMU at 26-24.
The Greyhounds hit .378 in the three set while limiting the Mustangs to just a .029 attacking clip to record a 25-16 win. ENMU pulled away midway through the set, breaking a 10-10 tie with a 7-1 run to force an MSU timeout. The Mustangs were only able to pull within four points before the Greyhounds ended the set on a 6-1 run to earn the sweep.
