OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 15 Midwestern State extended its winning streak to six games while posting its fifth shutout in the last six outings Saturday evening in a 2-0 blanking of Oklahoma Christian at Eagle Soccer Field.
Midwestern State (11-2-1, 9-1-0) took a 2-0 advantage into halftime following a pair of late first half scores. A foul on Oklahoma Christian (4-9-1, 2-7-1) in the box set up the eventual game-winning goal for
Patrick Fitzgerald in the 33rd minute, finding the back of the net on a penalty kick for his second goal of the season.
With less than four minutes to play in the opening period,
Pierre Bocquet added to the MSU lead with a strike from six yards out. Bocquet collected a loose ball after an Evan Helker save off
Jacob Hernandez's shot before firing between the posts for the 2-0 advantage in the 42nd minute.
The Mustangs held off a late push from the Eagles, who placed seven of their nine shots on goal in the second half, to record their seventh clean sheet of the season.
