FOR STARTERS
Midwestern opened the season last weekend going 1-3 at Colorado Mines' Oredigger Classic in Golden. The Mustangs earned a 3-1 win over Pace (N.Y.) and dropped matches to Colorado Christian (3-1), Minnesota State-Moorhead (3-0) and No. 8 Colorado Mines (3-1).

LAST WEEKEND
- Sophomore outside hitter Meghan Bettis and freshman middle blocker Kiley Beaver paced the MSU offense last weekend at the Oredigger Classic
- Bettis led the Mustangs with 2.40 kills per set while Beaver was close behind with an average of 2.07 per set
- Freshman Hayden Blair took the reins of the Mustangs offense, dishing out 7.80 assists per set in her first collegiate action
- Defensively, junior libero Madelyn Johnson averaged 2.93 digs per set for Midwestern while freshman Matti Dix averaged 2.33
 
RAWSON ERA BEGINS
- Former Midwestern assistant coach Natalie Rawson was tabbed the eighth head volleyball coach in program history back on Mar. 24, 2015
- Rawson spent the last two seasons as the head coach at Newman (Kan.), leading the Jets to a 30-26 record and their first Heartland Conference postseason appearance in four years in 2014
- Rawson spent three seasons as an assistant coach at MSU from 2010-12

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- Southwestern Oklahoma State went 2-2 at the St. Edward's Hilltopper Classic in Austin last weekend, picking up wins over Tiffin (Ohio) (3-1) and Franklin Pierce (N.H.) (3-1) while falling to host St. Edward's (3-0) and Missouri S&T (3-0)
- In 2014, the Bulldogs finished with an 8-19 mark and a 5-9 record in the Great American Conference to place eighth
- Junior outside hitter Carly Zak led SWOSU last week, averaging 3.64 kills per set and was second for the Bulldogs with 3.00 digs per set
- Junior setter Kayla Herbert is averaging 9.71 assists per set to lead the SWOSU offense while senior libero Kaila Lancaster is first for the Bulldogs on the defensive side with 5.64 digs per set
- The Bulldogs are led by fourth-year head coach Josh Collins, who has compiled a 36-62 record in his time at SWOSU
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
- Midwestern holds a 9-4 all-time record against the Bulldogs, and are 5-1 inside Ligon Coliseum
- The Mustangs have won four-straight matchups including two sweeps over the Bulldogs last season
- SWOSU's last win over Midwestern came during the 2012 season with a 3-1 victory at the Hilltopper/Rattler Classic in Austin
 
SCOUTING THE LADY RAMS
- Texas Wesleyan enters Wednesday's match with an 8-2 record, winners of seven of their last eight contests
- The Lady Rams are coming off a 15-19 record in 2014 with a 10-6 mark in the Sooner Athletic Conference (NAIA)
- The TWU offense is led by senior outside hitter Abby Zipoy, who averages 3.59 kills per set. Senior setter Kristina Gafford has dished out 394 assists, 10.37 per set, to pace the Lady Rams offense
- Defensively, senior libero Shaughnessy Hearn leads Texas Wesleyan with 202 digs for 5.94 per set
- Kimberly Weaver is in her third season as the head coach of the Lady Rams volleyball program, holding a 42-39 record in that span
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
- The Lady Rams are 19-8 against the Mustangs in the all-time series with a 6-5 mark in Wichita Falls
- The two teams last met back in 2002 with the Mustangs earning two 3-0 sweeps over the Lady Rams that season
- Midwestern has won five of the last seven matchups
 
LOOKING AHEAD
- Midwestern will travel to Russellville, Arkansas, this weekend for the Arkansas Tech Tournament at Tucker Coliseum
- MSU will open up the tourney Friday morning at 11 a.m. against the host institution before wrapping up the day against Missouri Southern at 3 p.m.
- The Mustangs will take on Rawson's former team Newman (Kan.) at 9 a.m. Saturday and battle Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) at 1 p.m. to conclude the tournament
