GOLDEN, Colo. – Minnesota State-Moorhead put up 12 blocks and held the Midwestern State volleyball team to a -.049 hitting percentage to record a 3-0 sweep over the Mustangs in the first match of the day Saturday at the Oredigger Classic.
In the first set, the Dragons (3-0) began to pull away midway through the frame with a 6-0 run to stretch their lead to 20-13. Kills from Abby Wolpern, Claire Grimm and Kaitlin VanWinkle gave MSUM the momentum to eventually pull out a 25-19 set win.
The Dragons climbed out to a 7-2 advantage to open the second set before a kill by sophomore outside hitter
Meghan Bettis halted the Dragons run.
Facing an 11-6 deficit, the Mustangs (1-2) began to cut into the MSUM lead as kills by sophomore outside hitter/middle blocker
Addison Semer and senior outside hitter
Hunter Porter pulled Midwestern within two.
However, the Dragons would not let MSU get any closer, extending their lead to as much as seven before taking the second set by a score of 25-19.
In the third, attack errors and the MSUM presence at the net was too much for the Mustangs to overcome as the Dragons went on a 12-0 run to claim a 25-8 decision and take the match 3-0.
Semer and freshman middle blocker
Kiley Beaver each tallied six kills to lead the Mustangs. Freshman setter
Hayden Blair finished with 21 assists while junior libero
