For Starters
Midwestern opens the 2015 season this weekend at the Oredigger Classic in Golden, Colorado, hosted by Colorado Mines. The Mustangs will take on Colorado Christian and Pace (N.Y.) on the first day of action Friday before facing Minnesota State-Moorhead and No. 8 Colorado Mines on Saturday.
 
Rawson Era Begins
- Former Midwestern assistant coach Natalie Rawson was tabbed the eighth head volleyball coach in program history back on Mar. 24, 2015
- Rawson spent the last two seasons as the head coach at Newman (Kan.), leading the Jets to a 30-26 record and their first Heartland Conference postseason appearance in four years in 2014
- Rawson spent three seasons as an assistant coach at MSU from 2010-12
 
Scouting the Cougars
- Colorado Christian was picked to finish fourth in the Mountain Division and eighth overall in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC)
- The Cougars posted a school record 27 wins last season with a 27-14 record. CCU went 9-9 in league play to finish sixth
- CCU returns four starters for the upcoming season
- The Cougars are under the direction of first-year head coach Andria Harshman

- The two teams will meet for the third time Friday with the series even at 1-1
- The Mustangs and Cougars last met in 2006 with MSU coming away with a 3-1 victory in Lakewood, Colorado
- The first meeting in the series occurred in 1991 with CCU taking a season-opening 3-2 win over Midwestern in Abilene
 
Scouting the Setters
- Pace recorded a 4-23 mark with a 1-13 Northeast-10 Conference record last season
- The Setters return their entire starting lineup from 2014
- Pace was picked 14th in the Northeast-10 Preseason Poll
- Head coach Karrin Moore is in her sixth season for the Setters with a career record of 67-89 (.429)

- Minnesota State-Moorhead is coming off an 11-17 season including a 6-14 mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference
- MSU-Moorhead was picked to finish 10th in the NSIC Preseason Poll
- The Dragons welcome back six starters including senior middle blocker Kaitlin VanWinkle, who was an All-NSIC First Team selection a season ago. She was also selected as a player to watch in the league during the preseason
- In her 21st season at the helm of the MSU-Moorhead volleyball program, Tammy Blake is the winningest coach in school history with an all-time record of 343-269 (.560)

Scouting the Orediggers
- Colorado Mines posted a 25-4 record with a 17-1 mark in the RMAC to win their third-straight conference championship in 2014
- The Orediggers advanced to their sixth-straight NCAA Tournament last season, falling to the No. 7 seed Arkansas-Fort Smith in the first round
- CSM enters the 2015 season at No. 8 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Preseason Poll
- CSM was picked to win the RMAC this season, garnering eight first-place votes and 217 points in the league's preseason poll
- The Orediggers return six starters this season including AVCA All-Americans Danielle Johnson-Hazelwood, Megan Peterson and Alanna Winfield
- Johnson-Hazelwood was tabbed the RMAC Preseason Player and Setter of the Year while Peterson and Winfield were also all-RMAC preseason selections

- Senior outside hitter Hunter Porter highlights the Mustangs returners after leading the squad with 2.48 kills per set in 2014
- Sophomore outside hitter/middle blocker Addison Semer and sophomore middle blocker Angel Summers round out the returning starters for Midwestern
- In 2014, Semer was fourth in blocks (0.65/set) and sixth in kills (1.43/set) while Summers ranked second in blocks (0.84/set) and fifth in kills (1.67/set) for MSU
 
Looking Ahead
- The Mustangs host their home opener Wednesday when they welcome Southwestern Oklahoma State and Texas Wesleyan to D.L. Ligon Coliseum. MSU takes on SWOSU at 3 p.m. before closing out the evening against TWU at 7:30 p.m.
