WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State blitzed No. 36 St. Edward's (Texas) 9-0 to extend its winning streak to four matches Friday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.
The Mustangs improved to 10-5 overall while moving to 5-1 in the South Central Region. MSU also upped its mark against regionally ranked foes to 8-4.
MSU hits the road to take on Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday afternoon. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
Midwestern stayed hot delivering its second consecutive sweep and has outscored the last four opponents by a 34-2 cumulative count.
Senior
Taylor Coffman combined with junior
Kayla Casey for their sixth consecutive win at the No. 1 doubles spot taking down 22nd-ranked Brooke Hughes and Alexandra Khadhyzan 8-2.
The Mustangs completed the doubles' sweep with 8-5 wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots.
Sophomore
Courtney Anderson headlined singles play by improving to 9-1 on the season with a 7-6, 7-5 win over Francesca Chaher at the No. 4 position while
Kayla Casey, Coffman and Madeline Schorlemmer claimed wins at the top three spots.
The Mustangs used a freshman duo at the Nos. 5 and 6 positions to polish off the sweep as
Carrie Casey beat Summer Biggs 6-2, 6-1 and
Alexis Arrieta rolled past Marissa Williams 6-1, 6-4.
St. Edward's dropped to 8-7 on the season.
