GRANBURY, Texas -- Midwestern State senior Brenna Moore carded her fourth par-or-better round of the season in the opening round of the Housewright Classic played at the Par-72, 5,855-ard course at the Harbor Lakes Golf Club.

But for the first time all semester, the Mustangs got off to a sluggish start as a team and are fourth heading into Tuesday's final round after posting a 20-over total of 308.

"We were not as a team as good from tee to green as we normally are," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "This is the first tournament in three weeks and we did not get off to a great start."

MSU is coming off of back-to-back wins of the Midwestern State Invitational and at the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions Invitational, but last played a competition round on March 25.

"This is a course we can shoot 295 on if we play to our ability, Ray said. "The girls have worked hard leading up to this. We are looking forward to tomorrow."

The Mustangs are 10 strokes behind tournament leading St. Edward's (Texas) who fired a 10-over 298 followed by Tarleton State (301/+13) and Arkansas-Fort Smith (302/+14).

Moore is one stroke off of the pace of individual leader Casey Wild of Tarleton State. Wild, who shot an opening round 71, leads Moore, Arkansas-Fort Smith's Molly Franks and St. Edward's Haley Haught by a single stroke.

"Brenna had a great day from tee to green. Her short game was also solid," Ray said. "The wind had picked up the last several holes. On 15 and 18 she made a great up and down for par."

Sophomore Hayle Dambold is tied for 10th with a 5-over 77, while freshman Sarah Moore carded a 7-over 79 to stand 24th.

"Hayley hit the ball very well today," Ray said. "Sarah was 5 over after 8 and finished 7 over."

Sophomore Sierra Campbell notched MSU's fourth countable score with an 8-over-80 to tie for 30th while junior Kynze Mann carded a 12-over 84 to tie for 42nd.
