STEPHENVILLE, Texas -- Tarleton State junior Katelyn Conlee's solo home run over the left-field fence in the eighth inning lifted the TexAnns to a doubleheader sweep of Midwestern State Monday night at the TSU Softball Complex.
It was the second walk-off win of the series for Tarleton which improved to 16-12 on the season while leveling its Lone Star Conference mark at 3-3.
The TexAnns rolled to a 6-3 win earlier in the evening after splitting Sunday night's twin bill with MSU.
Midwestern, which has dropped nine of its last 12 since reeling off a 10-game winning streak from Feb. 13-21, enjoy a 10-day break before taking on Angelo State in a four-game series at Mustangs Park on April 3-4.
MSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead scoring single runs in the second and third frames as sophomore
Taylor Bermudes drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on
Paige Stevens' infield single in the second.
The Mustangs loaded the bases in the third as
Katelyn Vinson belted a one-out double to center field and advanced to third on
Haley Howerton's single up the middle before
Kelley Schaefer drew a walk to load the bases.
Vinson scored on a wild pitch by Tarleton State senior starter Brenna Hennan, but the Mustangs were unable to do further damage.
MSU loaded the bases in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings producing only one more run on Bermudes' infield safety with no outs in the seventh. In all, the Mustangs stranded 12 runners.
Sophomore starter
Tayler Jerrick (3-3) delivered another solid performance, but was stung by five Tarleton extra-base as she limited the TexAnns to four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 7 2/3 innings.
TSU's Erika Menchaca belted a solo shot to center field for the TexAnns first hit of the game to lead off the third.
Tarleton knotted the game at 2-2 in the bottom fourth when Savannah Stech scored on Conlee's double to left field.
Conlee finished the game going 2-for-4 with two doubles and a homer , while Menchaca for 2-for-2 with a double and a homer.
Menchaca scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh reaching on a two-bagger to the left-field gap and then scored on Delaney Wayland's two-out single up the middle.
Bermudes reached four time for the Mustangs going 2-for-2 with a pair of stolen bases, while Howerton was 2-for-5 and stole her team-high 13th base of the season.
