WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 22-ranked Midwestern State shot 56.3 percent from the field and swatted 15 shots to roll to a 96-66 win over Louisiana State-Shreveport in exhibition play Sunday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
It's the first of two tune-ups for the Mustangs, who play NAIA Huston-Tillotson on Wednesday, Nov. 11 under the dome. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
Senior forward
Khapri Alston led the way by posting a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while juniors
Trevor Fuller and
Matt Pollard combined for 10 blocked shots as the Mustangs limited the Pilots to 33.8-percent shooting from the floor.
Fuller slammed home four dunks on his way to perfect 5-for-5 shooting night finishing with 10 points and four rebounds, while senior guard
Brandon Golden pitched in 12 points hitting a pair of 3-pointers off of the bench.
The trio were the only players in double figures as 11 different MSU players hit the scoring column as the Mustangs dished out assists on 24 of 36 made field goals.
Starting point guard
Jordan Stevens scored seven points and dealt eight assists, while reserve point man Patrick Smith had five points and six assists in 20 minutes off of the bench.
LSC Preseason Player of the Year
Bretson McNeal needed just 18 minutes to produce a stat line of nine points, four rebounds and four assists while fellow starting guard
Hershell Grant had four points and five rebounds including a thunderous right-hand dunk late in the second half.
Sophomore guard
Mike Udume knocked down three triples to finish with nine points off of the bench where the Mustangs also received contributions from
Nick Powell (seven points),
Magnus Richards (six points) and
DeVaughn Jones (five points).
Manny Martin scored 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds off of the bench to pace LSU-Shreveport.
Midwestern State opens the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 15 against NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma City at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
