WOLFFORTH, Texas – Lubbock Christian erased a 2-0 deficit with two second half goals from junior midfielder Kwame Adu-Wusu to play the No. 2 Midwestern State men's soccer team to a 2-2 draw Monday afternoon at the Frenship Soccer Stadium.

"I think they (Lubbock Christian) worked hard," said head coach Doug Elder. "They played a different formation and made it hard for us to move the ball around. I don't think we played hard enough."

After a red card was issued on Adu-Wusu following his second goal in the 79th minute, the Mustangs (8-0-1) were unable to go in front late with the Chaps one man down.

Midwestern State limited LCU (4-3-2) to zero shots on goal in the final 20 minutes while putting together several chances late as senior midfielder Juan Farres placed the lone shot on goal of the first overtime in the 97th minute. The Mustangs attacked the LCU defense early in the second overtime with junior midfielder Leon Taylor and senior forward Albert Rodriguez getting shots off inside the box, but the Chaps were able to block both attempts to avoid the golden goal.

Midwestern State finished with a 21-16 edge in shots and 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. Rodriguez led the Mustangs with six shots while Farres added five, each placing two on goal.

"We didn't do a good job of taking the ball out wide," Elder said. "We had a couple of good chances that we didn't score on."

The Chaps held the Mustangs to just four shots, two on goal, in the opening period. However, the Midwestern defense also put up strong numbers by holding LCU to four shots as well with junior goalkeeper Noah Fazekas collecting three saves.

The Mustangs made one of their four shots count in the 28th minute as junior defender Antonio Hernandez found the goal off a free kick from 30 yards out to put the Mustangs in front at 1-0.

In the second half, the Mustangs struck quickly with Rodriguez delivering his team-high eighth goal of the season off a cross from senior defender Ben Clarvis into the six-yard box for a 2-0 MSU lead in the 53rd minute.

LCU avoided the shutout in the 64th minute as Adu-Wusu put the Chaps on the board, accepting a cross into the box from junior midfielder Cedric Omoregie before cutting the LCU deficit in half.

The Chaps evened the contest 14 minutes later as Adu-Wusu found the net for the second time after a cross inside the six-yard box from sophomore midfielder Mitchell Hopkins.

Sophomore midfielder Tommy Fogarty-Cameron led the Chaps with four shots while Adu-Wusu and Hopkins each added three. 

Midwestern State will host No. 8 St. Edward's in a battle of two undefeated teams Thursday at 7 p.m. at MSU Soccer Field.

"It's going to be a huge game - two undefeated teams with both teams ranked in the top 10," Elder said. "If anyone was planning on going to a game this season, this is the one to go to. It should be a packed house so hopefully we'll be able to put on a good show."
