Mustangs drop nip-and-tuck battle at A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas — The duo of Nicole Marzik and Hunter Porter did their damage Saturday night for Midwestern State, but it wasn't enough to overcome Texas A&M-Commerce which came away with a nip-and-tuck 25-20, 23-25, 24-26, 25-22, 17-15 win here in Lone Star Conference play.

The Mustangs dropped their fifth consecutive match to fall to 4-7 on the season while going to 0-4 in league play.

MSU plays host to Texas-Permian Basin Sunday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 3 p.m.

Marzik, a junior outside hitter from Peaster, put down a career-high 20 kills and finished off her seventh double-double of the season with 18 digs. She proved efficient hitting .246 making six errors in 57 attempts.

Porter, a junior transfer from Emporia State, put down 16 kills, while redshirt-freshman middle blocker Angel Summers had 13 kills while hitting .281.

Sophomore setter Sarah Rosinke completed a solid all-around performance with 42 assists, eight kills, seven digs and three service aces.

Senior libero Casey Fletcher paced MSU back row play with 33 digs, while sophomore Madelyn Johnson added 12 digs of her own.

Amy Devault led a growp of four A&M-Commerce players in double-figures with 20 as the Lions hit a stellar .262 as a team.

Texas A&M-Commerce upped its season record to 3-9 and 1-2.
