DENTON, Texas -- Midwestern State's
Hunter Porter and
Nicole Marzik delivered efficient hitting nights, but it wasn't enough for the Mustangs to snap out of a skid Friday night as Texas Woman's came away with a 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22 win at Kitty Magee Arena.
MSU dropped their fifth straight match to fall to 4-6 overall and to 0-3 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Pioneers won their third straight to improve to 6-4 and 2-1.
The Mustangs take on Texas A&M-Commerce on the road Saturday night at 7 p.m. before returning on to face Texas-Permian Basin Sunday at 3 p.m.
Porter, a junior from Red Oak, put down a season-high 15 kills with on six errors to lead the MSU attack while Marzik, a junior from Prosper, hit a season-high .238 finishing with 12 kills and two errors in 42 attacks.
But it wasn't enough to offset TWU's quartet in double-figure kills led by Kelci Lind's 16-kill effort while Mallory Kuechle added 14, Jaqueline Santos had 12 and Elizabeth Pennington notched 10 as the Pioneers blitzed the ball at a .269 clip as a team.
MSU sophomore middle blocker
Sarah Garfield led the Mustangs at the net finishing with nine kills and six total blocks, while Porter got hands on four blocks of her own.
Senior libero
Casey Fletcher led back row efforts with 23 digs, while Marzik finished off her sixth double-double of the season with a campaign-best 21 digs.
Sophomore setter
Sarah Rosinke finished with 44 assists while putting down five kills to go along with six digs.
