ON THE PITCH
Midwestern State battles two foes from the Heartland Conference in non-league play taking on Newman (Kan.) Friday night in Wichita before returning home to face St. Mary's (Texas).
 
SCOUTING THE JETS
- Newman pulls an unbeaten ledger into Friday night's matchup at Wilkins Field boasting a 4-0-1 mark.
- The Jets are 4-0 against non-Division II opposition while playing Maryville (Mo.) to a scoreless draw on Sept. 7.
- Newman plays its sixth consecutive match on its home pitch Friday night.
- The Jets rank second in NCAA Division II in total goals (20) and scoring offense (20.0).
- Eight different Newman players have scored multiple goals this season led by sophomore midfielder Kerbson Lubin who ranks fourth nationally in total goals with five.
- Senior goalkeeper Steven Hamersky (0.93 GAA) and freshman goalkeeper Calum Dillon (1.00 GAA) combined to rank seven in NCAA Division II opponents goals against average at 0.96.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State meets Newman for the seventh time on the pitch Friday night in Wichita.
- The Mustangs claimed wins in each of the previous six meetings of the series which dates back to 1989.
- Six different players tallied goals to help MSU to a 6-0 win over Jets last season in Wichita Falls.
- B.A. Catney struck for a goal off of a corner kick in the 110th minute to give the Mustangs a 1-0 win over Newman in double overtime in their last trip to Wilkins Field on Sept. 7, 2012.
 
SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
- St. Mary's takes an unbeaten 2-0-2 mark into weekend play as the Rattlers take on Our Lady of the Lake Friday before hitting the road to take on MSU in Wichita Falls.
- The Rattlers boast wins over Ouachita Baptist (3-0) and Fort Lewis (2-1) while earning 1-1 draws against McKendree and Eastern New Mexico.
- Sophomore midfielder Ryan Hoskins leads the STMU attack with three goals and one assists, while junior forward Victor Luna has tallied two goals this season.
- Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Mitchell Kilmer ranks 32nd in NCAA Division II with a 0.66 goals against average while posting a single clean sheet in four starts.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State meets St. Mary's (Texas) for the 26th time on the pitch Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.
- The Mustangs have all 25 meetings dating back to the 1977 season.
 
ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
- Midwestern State rolled to its third consecutive victory claiming a 4-0 result over Lubbock Christian Monday night at the MSU Soccer Field.
- Senior midfielder Andrew Power is one of only four players in NCAA Division II to net six goals thus far this season joining Chowan's Terrell Williamson (8), Lynn's Chris Hellmann (7) and West Alabama's Thibault Charmey (6).
- Power has scored goals in each of MSU's four matches including a pair for two-goal performances against Fort Lewis and Lubbock Christian. Five of his six goals have come in the run of play which the other coming via the penalty kick.
- Junior forward Albert Rodriguez netted goals in consecutive games against Colorado Mesa and Colorado-Colorado Springs.
- Only four players have scored goals for the Mustangs this season with junior Call Casarez and senior Len Smith joining the fray with tallies against Lubbock Christian.
- Sophomore midfielder Paul Sunderland has created four assists this season to lead the side.
- Junior goalkeeper Nick Petolick has delivered consecutive shutouts to lower his season goals against average to 1.19. He led the nation in 2013 with a 0.36 mark.
 
HOME FIELD MYSTIQUE
- Midwestern State owns a 53-3-5 mark (.910) at the MSU Soccer Field since the start of the 2008 season.
- The Mustangs boasted a 44-match unbeaten streak stretching from the 2007 postseason into the 2012 season.
- MSU is currently on a 9-match home unbeaten streak since taking a 2-1 loss in double overtime to St. Edward's on Sept. 20, 2013. The Mustangs are 7-0-1 on its home pitch since with the draw coming against Eastern New Mexico.
 
THE DOUG ELDER ERA
- Doug Elder is in his 15th season at the helm of Midwestern State.
- Elder remains NCAA Division II winningest active coach in terms of percentage at 209-48-26 (.784).
- Elder is a six-time NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year (2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011).
- Elder's teams have advanced to the NCAA Division II postseason nine times while making five national quarterfinal appearances twice advancing to the Final Four.
- Elder needs 13 wins to overtake Howard Patterson (221-85-20 from 1973-89) as the program's all-time leader in coaching wins.
