No. 18 Mustangs shutout UTPB 9-0 to end regular season

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The 18th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs ended the regular season by winning their fourth straight match with a 9-0 shutout against Texas-Permian Basin Saturday at the MSU Tennis Center.

MSU (17-6) used eight different players in the line up in extending its home winning streak to 17.  The Falcons (7-12) dropped their seventh straight.

"We all came to play today," said MSU junior Tomas Grejtak.  "Even though this team wasn't ranked, we all wanted to close the regular season out strong."

The Mustangs started the ball rolling by securing all three doubles points on the way to the sweep.

Grejtak and Ramon Toyos, the Mustangs No. 1 doubles team that is ranked eighth nationally, had little trouble in rolling Justin Pena/Adam Cheney 8-3.

Kacper Boborykin/Kyle Davidson took out Alvaro Sifuentes/Jaxon Imler 8-2 at No. 2.

The closest point of the match was No. 3 doubles, but the Mustangs hung tough there as well with Christopher Norrie/Keegan Sullivan beating Caio Aguiar/Josh Jones 9-7.

The charge in singles was paced by 30th ranked Boborykin at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-0 ripping of 49th ranked Pena.

Toyos played up to No. 2 and shutout Sifuentes 6-0, 6-0, as Norrie moved up to No. 3 and won 6-1, 6-1 over Cheney.

Grejtak won at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 decision against Aguiar.

The Mustangs got match experience for Austin Crawford and Luca Lalor, who both came out victorious.  Crawford took No. 5 against Mateus Munhoz 6-1, 6-2, while Lalor downed Imler 6-3, 6-1.

The MSU men, who were the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division II South Central Region, are now in a waiting game.  They won't play again until the NCAA Tournament.  Those pairings will be released on Tuesday night, April 29th.
