ARLINGTON, Texas – The 18th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs came from behind with four singles wins to edge 19th ranked St. Mary's 5-4 Saturday morning at the Arlington Tennis Center.
The Mustangs (12-3) collected their third straight win, while the Rattlers (10-4) dropped their fourth match in five outings.
MSU sophomore
Kayla Casey, ranked 33rd nationally, capped the Mustangs comeback with a rugged 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles against Christina Lopez to clinch the match.
Taylor Coffman came through for MSU at No. 3, going three sets to beat Felicity Delgado 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Courtney Anderson took care of No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ariana Saldana, and
Paige Boykin won at No. 6 with a 7-5, 6-4 decision against Joanie Bryant.
St. Mary's Mariana Rong, ranked 30th in Division II, picked up the win at No. 1, beating MSU's
Amy Clifton 6-4, 6-1, and the Rattlers scored at No. 4 as Jamie Lee Denton beat
Lauren Pineda 6-3, 6-3.
The Mustangs battled back from being down 2-1 after doubles, with the lone point coming at No. 3 where Anderson/Clifton beat Bryant/Saldana 8-4.
St. Mary's duo of Rong/Lopez upset 20th ranked Casey/Coffman 9-7 at No. 1, with Delgado/Denton handing Briner/Pineda 8-2.
The Mustangs get a short break after their four matches in four days stretch, as they will be back on the court Tuesday afternoon against Southeastern Oklahoma State at the MSU Tennis Center.
