Mustangs crush Hardrockers, win seventh straight

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State Mustangs closed out 2014 with their 7th consecutive win, crushing the south Dakota Mines Hardrockers 90-63.

MSU (11-3) extended their home-winning streak to 12 games, seeing 4 Mustangs score in double-digits including a a game-high 25 points from Bretson McNeal.

The scrappy Hardrockers from South Dakota Mines (3-11) took an early 4-0 lead over MSU in the opening minutes. Midwestern quickly responded in the paint with dunks and layups from Abiodun Adegoke and Khapri Alston, taking a 7-6 lead at the 16:27 mark.

After a layup gave the Hardrockers the 8-7 lead, MSU's Bretson McNeal took over the game. McNeal splashed home a long 3-pointer to make the score 10-8. The Mustangs went into halftime leading 44-32 and would never trail again in the game. McNeal tallied 15 points in the first half.

The second half was almost a mirror image of the first, seeing the Mustangs outscore South Dakota Mines 46-31. MSU owned the glass, outrebounding the Hardrockers 33-26.

The Mustangs used a great night from the bench to get the win. The MSU bench outscored South Dakota Mines 31-22 including 12 points from Thad Rideau and 10 points from Trevor Fuller.

Even passing the ball went well for MSU as the Mustangs dished out 24 assists, including 6 from Xavier Blackburn.

The win closes out MSU's non-conference schedule for the season. Next up for the Mustangs is a home battle with Texas A&M-Commerce. That game is slated for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from Ligon Coliseum.
