FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Midwestern State connected on seven 3-pointers in the first half to open up a big lead and held on for a 75-55 win over Nova Southeastern Saturday night at NSU Arena in Don Taft University Center.
It was the first road win for the Mustangs, who improved to 7-3 on the season by taking their third consecutive win. It was MSU's first road win in three tries this season.
Midwestern State completes its Florida road swing by taking on Lynn Monday night in Boca Raton. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. (Central Time).
Senior guard
Derrell Gibbs gave the Mustangs an early lift bombing in three 3-pointers while going 5-for-6 from the fielding the opening half accounting for each of his 13 points.
But it was junior guard
Thad Rideau who keyed a first-half closing 14-2 run with a pair of triples as the Mustangs pushed their lead out to 21 points at 48-27 after trailing by six points three minutes into the contest.
Rideau poured in 15 points for the second consecutive game finishing 5-of-6 from the arc.
Midwestern reversed roles with the Sharks, who came in averaging nearly 13 made 3-pointers a game while shooting 40 percent as a team from the 3-point line.
The Mustangs limited Nova Southeastern to a 3-of-16 night from long distance (18.8 percent) as NSU finished the game shooting 37.8 percent from the floor.
Meanwhile, MSU connected at a 48.2-percent clip from the field as junior guard
Bretson McNeal added 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting with two 3-pointers while junior guard
Hershell Grant scored 10 points and pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Senior forward
Abiodun Adegoke had seven points and raked in 12 rebounds to help the control a 43-21 edge on the glass.
Junior forward
Khapri Alston pitched in eight points and six rebounds off of the bench.
Maurice Fuller scored 13 points to lead Nova Southeastern which fell to 4-3 on the season.
