WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State Mustangs received a career-high 20 points from senior guard
Lisa Hampton en route to an 82-59 victory over the Ouachita Baptist Tigers in Ligon coliseum on Sunday night.
Hampton scored her 20 points on 8-14 shooting from the floor, including 4-6 from downtown. The senior from Kennedale, Texas paced the Mustangs with solid play for a team-high 34 minutes.
"Obviously Lisa was huge tonight," said MSU head coach
Noel Johnson. "The pace of the game played well for her and her teammates were able to find her open."
Senior guard
Shatoia Gober had a terrific night as well scoring 18 on the night. Gober was hot all night, going 8-11 from the floor including a perfect 2-2 from 3 point land.
"Shatoia was consistent all night long," said Johnson. "She had great drives and was all over the place." Gober also led the team in rebounds with 7.
The highlight of the night was when OBU and MSU traded amazing 3-pointers just before the half. With three seconds left in the first half, Ouachita's Alexis Sharp nailed a triple and was fouled by
Lisa Hampton. Sharp sank the free-throw and cut MSU's lead down to six. On the ensuing possession,
Shatoia Gober handled the inbounds pass and heaved an attempt from nearly 3/4 of the floor, sinking the long range bomb off of the glass as the buzzer sounded. MSU took a 44-35 lead into halftime.,
The second half was well in hand for the Mustangs as they outscored OBU 38-24 in the second frame. The Mustangs capitalized on 26 Tiger turnovers, turning them into 15 points on the night. Ouachita Baptist never lead the game at any point on the night.
Next up for the Mustangs is a matchup with Arkansas-Fort Smith on Wednesday, December 3. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Ligon Coliseum.
