ON THE COURT
Midwestern State takes on a pair of Lone Star Conference opponents this weekend at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs battle Eastern New Mexico Friday at 6 p.m. before taking on West Texas A&M Saturday at 2.
 
SCOUTING THE ZIAS
- Eastern New Mexico dropped two of its last three matches, but has won three of its last five including a sweep of Tarleton State on Sept. 27.
- Sophomore right-side hitter Lauren Frye leads the Zia attack putting down 2.93 kills per set to rank seventh in the Lone Star Conference.
- Senior middle blocker Agatha Gibbons rates fourth in the league with a .307 attack percentage while putting down 1.87 kills per set.
- Senior outside hitter Lindsey Barron gives the Zias a second player averaging more than two kills per set with 2.36.
- Seniors Kennedi Catano (4.93 aps) and Karra Day (4.55 aps) share setter duties leading ENMU to a .174 team attack percentage.
- Gibbons (1.07 bps) and senior Bree Anna Lucero (1.02) lead the Zias at the net, while sophomore defensive specialist Lindsay Bost paces the back row with 4.25 digs per set.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico meet for the 30th time on the floor Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
- The Zias lead the overall series by a 16-13 margin and are 6-4 all time against MSU in Wichita Falls.
- The teams split the regular season series in 2013.
- ENMU claimed a five-set win over the Mustangs last month in Portales.
 
SCOUTING THE LADY BUFFS
- West Texas A&M has rolled off eight consecutive wins since taking a 3-0 loss to Truman State (Mo.) on Sept. 20.
- The Lady Buffs, who lead the Lone Star Conference with a 7-0 mark, are receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches' Association Top 25.
- Each of WT's three losses has come in sweeps and 12 of the Lady Buffs' 19 matches have ended in three sets. West Texas A&M has played one five-set match this season -- a win over Texas Woman's on Oct. 4.
- WTAMU takes on Cameron Friday night in Lawton before making its way to Wichita Falls on Saturday.
- The Lady Buffs rank 11th in NCAA Division II in hitting percentage (.271), 12th in team kills (837), 12th in team assists (783) and 18th in total team blocks (136.5).
- Senior outside hitter Lauren Bevan rates 10th in NCAA Division II with 4.28 kills per set and is 11th nationally with 4.73 points per set.
- Senior right-side hitter/setter Kameryn Hayes delivers an all-around game with 2.48 kills, 7.29 set assists and 2.03 digs per set.
- Sophomore setter Kyli Schulz adds 4.44 set assists per set to go along with 2.13 digs per set.
- Sophomore middle blockers Leah Mayer (0.96 bps) and Cori Haley (0.94 bps) paced WT at the net as the Lady Buffs average 2.28 team blocks per set.
- Sophomore defensive specialist Lauren Britten paces back row play with 4.37 digs per set.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State meets West Texas A&M for the 28th time on the floor Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
- The Lady Buffs have won each of the previous 27 meetings including all nine in Wichita Falls.
 
MUSTANGS NOTEBOOK
- Midwestern State dropped non-conference road matches at Northwestern Oklahoma State and Lubbock Christian before falling in five sets to Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday.
- The Mustangs have lost 12 of their last 13 to fall to 5-12 on the season and 1-6 in LSC play.
- Midwestern has stretched eight of their 17 matches to five sets this season and is 3-5 in those contests.
- Junior outside hitter Hunter Porter (Red Oak, Texas / Red Oak HS (Emporia State)) paced MSU with 2.61 kills per set last week.
- Porter put down 15 kills with two miscues in 37 attacks for a season-best .351 hitting percentage Saturday against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
- Porter has 10-or-more kills in seven of her 13 matches this season.
- Junior outside hitter Nicole Marzik (Prosper, Texas / Prosper HS (Fairfield)) notched her team-best ninth and 10th double-doubles of the season last week as she had 13 kills and 13 digs at Lubbock Christian and 12 kills and 10 digs against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
- Senior libero Casey Fletcher (Eddy, Texas / Moody HS) continues to lead the Lone Star Conference with 5.57 digs per set.
- Fletcher has notched at least 13 digs in each of MSU's 17 matches this season and recorded her 12th 20-plus dig performance with 22 Saturday against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
- Sophomore Madelyn Johnson (Alvin, Texas / Alvin HS (New Mexico State)) notched her seventh and eighth double-figure dig performances of the season with 12 at Lubbock Christian and 19 versus Texas A&M-Kingsville.
 
MUSTANGS UNDER VENERA FLORES-STAFFORD
- Venera Flores-Stafford is in her 11th season at the helm at MSU posting a 175-163 record (.518).
- The Mustangs are 69-80 (.463) in Lone Star Conference play during the Flores-Stafford era.
 
UP NEXT
- Midwestern State plays three matches next week beginning with a home matchup Wednesday against Lubbock Christian before hitting the road to take on Tarleton State and Angelo State next weekend.
