LAWTON, Okla. -- Midwestern State sophomore
Sarah Garfield delivered another stellar offensive performance Friday night against Cameron at Aggie Gym.
But it wasn't enough to overcome the hot hitting Aggies who came away with a 25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22 Lone Star Conference win.
The Mustangs, who fell to 8-19 overall and to 3-12 in LSC play, remain a 1/2-game behind Texas A&M-Commerce for the eighth and final berth in the LSC Postseason Tournament.
MSU closes the regular season with a non-conference match at Southwestern Oklahoma State on Monday before taking on Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday on the road.
Garfield followed Thursday's career best performance of 22 kills against Southern Nazarene with an 18-kill effort against Cameron while committing just two errors in 37 attacks for a .432 hitting percentage.
Junior outside hitter
Hunter Porter added 11 kills to help the Mustangs to a .221 team hitting percentage, but Cameron was just a notch better at .242.
Kat Evans paced the Aggies' attack with 13 kills, while Rebecca Green and Kendra Adams chipped in 11 kills each to help CU jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Garfield and Porter combined for nine kills without a single error to spearhead a 25-21 win in the third frame, but Cameron took advantage of three service aces and four MSU ball handling errors to clinch the victory in the fourth.
Senior defensive specialist
Casey Fletcher paced back row efforts with her 14th match with 20-or-more digs, while senior
Kat Molloy had six kills and 18 digs.
Molloy was also strong at the net joining sophomore
Cody Moore and freshman
Angel Summers with three blocks.
Cameron improved to 12-13 on the season while going to 4-11 in Lone Star Conference play.
