ON THE PITCH
Midwestern State gets Lone Star Conference play going in earnest taking on Texas Woman's Friday night at 7 p.m. then closing the weekend against Texas A&M-Commerce Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
- Texas Woman's has won six of its last seven matches heading into weekend play with preseason favorites Midwestern State and Angelo State.
- The Pioneers boast the LSC's second most potent attack averaging just over three goals a game and have scored at least three goals in five of their nine matches.
- Forward Natalia Diaz ranks third in NCAA Division II in total goals with nine and is fourth in total points with 21 with the addition of three assists.
- Diaz, a sophomore from Bucaramanga, Colombia, scored multiple goals in three matches this season with two against Colorado Mesa, Harding and St. Edward's. She has tallied points in seven of nine games this season.
- Six players have scored at least two goals this season for TWU with three from sophomore forward Nancy Chavez and sophomore forward Gabrielle Larson and two each from senior forward Emily Davila, senior forward Candice Davies and senior midfielder Rachel Rupp.
- Junior goalkeeper Ariana Morrison allows a 0.79 goals against average with a .824 save percentage. She has played a role in each of the Pioneers' three clean sheets this season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State meets Texas Woman's for the 16th time on the pitch Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field.
- The Mustangs own a commanding 11-2-2 edge in the series which dates back to the 2002 season.
- Midwestern is 7-1 all time against the Pioneers at the MSU Soccer Field with the Pioneers' lone victory coming by a 1-0 count back in 2007.
- The Mustangs are 7-0-1 in their last eight meeting with TWU. The Pioneers last win came in 2008 (2-1).
 
ABOUT THE LIONS
- Texas A&M-Commerce's season has gone in a simple rhythm: win two, lose one time three. The Lions are coming off of a 1-0 loss at home to West Texas A&M heading into a road swing against LSC preseason favorites Angelo State and Midwestern State.
- Sophomore forward Savannah Henderson is yet another dynamic goal scorer in the Lone Star Conference. The Mabank native ranks eighth in NCAA Division II in total goals with eight.
- Henderson has accounted for each of her goal with four, two-goal performances coming against Colorado-Colorado Springs, St. Mary's, Ouachita Baptist and Eastern New Mexico.
- Junior forward Jade Bell adds four goals and five assists while junior forward Julia Hernandez has two goals to round out the Lions' attack.
- Junior goalkeeper Courtnie Northern allows a 0.77 goals against average while ranking 22nd in NCAA Division II with a .889 save percentage. She has accounted for two clean sheets.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State meets Texas A&M-Commerce for the 31st time on the pitch Sunday at the MSU Soccer Field.
- The Mustangs own a 17-9-4 edge in the series which dates back to the 1995 season.
- Midwestern is 8-2-2 all time against the Lions at the MSU Soccer Field.
- The Mustangs are 7-1-1 against A&M-Commerce since the start of the 2009 season.
 
MUSTANGS NOTEBOOK
Midwestern State posted its fifth and sixth shutouts to extend its season opening unbeaten streak to nine games taking a scoreless draw at Angelo State before claiming a 1-0 result over St. Edward's.
- MSU is receiving in the NSCAA Division II Top 25 for the first time since last the last regular season rankings in 2011.
- The Mustangs (5-0-4) are unbeaten through nine matches for the second time in program history and for the first time since MSU started 9-0-2 in 2009.
- Midwestern shutout the nation's No. 2-ranked scoring attack Friday night at Angelo State as the Rambelles had scored at least four goals of their previous six matches.
- The Mustangs played to their fourth draw this season Friday at Angelo State and have been involved in every tie in the LSC this season.
- MSU's four draws are the second most in school history just one shy of the program record set in 2003 at 12-4-5.
- Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Courtney Burnette (Irving, Texas / MacArthur HS) has six shutout in her first nine collegiate matches.
- Burnette tops the LSC in every goalkeeping category and ranks second in NCAA Division II in goalie minutes played (890:00), seventh in save percentage (.932), 15th in goals against average (0.404) and 17th in total saves (55.0).
- Burnette needs three clean sheets to match Kallie Essary's single season mark of nine set last season.
- Freshman Destinee Williamson (Bedford, Texas / Trinity HS) tallied her first collegiate game winning goal in the 10th minute Sunday at St. Edward's.
- Williamson has scored each of her five goals in her last six matches.
- Senior midfielder Katy Catney (Wichita Falls, Texas / Rider HS) dished out her third assist of the season Sunday at St. Edward's. It was the 10th of her career.
 
THE CLARKE ERA BEGINS
- Damian Clarke is in his eighth overall season as a head coach boasting the 11th best winning percentage amongst NCAA Division II coaches at 111-31-20 (.747).
- Clarke led Fort Lewis to NCAA playoff appearances in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 as the Skyhawks advanced to the Elite Eight in 2010.
- Clarke is a three-time NSCAA Central Region and RMAC Coach of the Year.
