Parides hits Falcons with hat trick

ODESSA, Texas -- One wasn't enough and two just wouldn't suffice for Midwestern State's Thomas Parides (Richardson, Texas / Jesuit Prep School) Thursday night.

The freshman forward from Richardson dropped a hat trick on Texas-Permian Basin to open his career scoring account in a 4-0 MSU win at the UTPB Soccer Field.

"We had freshman sensation tonight," MSU coach Doug Elder said. ". This is a confidence builder and he is excited about it. He got his opportunity to get in the game and made great decisions."

Parides accounted for the Mustangs' 13th hat trick since the start of the 2000 season and it was the first since former all-region performer Chris Dwyer scored three goals at the same venue in a 5-0 win in 2011.

He became the first true freshman to net three goals in a game since Elder took over the program in 2000, but it was sophomore midfielder Kyle Baccus (Waco, Texas / Midway HS (Charlotte)) who struck first for the Mustangs.

He took a pass from redshirt freshman Laurence Chamberlain (Midlothian, Texas / Midlothian HS) in the 12th minute to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.

"It was a great through ball by Laurence," Elder said. "Kyle ran through it with a one-time to the back post."

It was all Parides after that.

The Jesuit Prep School standout notched his first collegiate goal off of a cross from Ben Clarvis to give MSU a 2-0 halftime advantage.

He continued to work through the second half converting an assist from redshirt-freshman Michael Klodzinski (Dallas, Texas / Dallas Lutheran HS) to his second tally in the 67th minute.

"Thomas was able to play the ball behind him for a great goal," Elder said. "The only way he could score that was to run through the box with some speed. He earned his opportunity tonight by working hard in practice and took advantage of his time."

Parides polished off the hat trick by flicking a goal resulting from a corner kick in the 79th minute off of an assist from senior midfielder Andrew Power (Waterford, Ireland / St. Paul's Secondary (Northern Iowa ACC)).

"A win is a win on the road. The first half was even but we were able to finally break them down," Elder said. "Credit to UTPB, they played a really good game even though we won. I was happy with the way our bench contributed and our freshmen really came through."

Junior goalkeeper Nick Petolick (Frisco, Texas / Wakeland HS (Oral Roberts)) made four saves to finish off his fifth clean sheet of the season.

Midwestern State continues its road swing Monday night at Dallas Baptist. Kickoff at the Patriot Soccer Field is set for 7 p.m.
