Mustangs fall to West Texas A&M, 3-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- West Texas A&M ran its Lone Star Conference winning streak to 31 matches taking a 25-17, 25-17, 26-24 win over Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Lady Buffs ran their season record to 18-3 while improving to 9-0 in league play, while MSU slipped to 6-13 and 2-7.
 
Senior middle blocker Kat Molloy came off of the bench to pace the Mustangs with seven kills while redshirt-freshman Angel Summers added six kills as Midwestern struggled to a .065 team hitting percentage.
 
MSU enjoyed strong play at the net from freshman Addison Semer, who finished with five total blocks including a pair of solo stuffs while sophomore Sarah Garfield added four blocks of her own.
 
West Texas A&M used a strong attack paced by Kameryn Hayes (12 kills) and Jessica Johnson (11 kills) to roll out to matching 25-17 wins in the opening two sets.
 
The Mustangs overcame a slow start in the third set behind the strong play of Garfield and Molloy who each put down four kills in the stanza to give MSU a set point at 24-23.
 
But the Lady Buffs rattled off the final three points with consecutive kills by Lexi Davis to close out the match.
 
Senior libero Casey Fletcher paced back row play with 16 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Madelyn Johnson added 14.
 
Midwestern State returns to action Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum against Lubbock Christian. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
