WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Texas Woman's University proved too big at the net in sending Midwestern State to a 25-18, 27-25, 25-15 loss in Lone Star Conference play Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Pioneers (10-4, 2-0) combined for 14.5 team blocks to send MSU to its fifth consecutive loss as the Mustangs dropped to 7-6 on the season and to 0-5 in league play.
Senior Marcela Alves accounted for eight total blocks while Hillary Shaffer and Courtnee Davis had five blocks each and Chloe Tate added five.
The Mustangs struggled out of the gate committing 11 hitting miscues in the opening set including five on blocks, but then recovered for a strong second stanza.

Caitlin Wallace put down four of her team-high nine kills as the Mustangs rallied to take a set point at 25-24.
But Davis put away a kill before MSU suffered consecutive setting miscues -- on a bad set and a ball handling error -- allowing the Pioneers to take a two-set advantage as the Mustangs were whistled for seven ball handling infractions.
TWU put away the match with a strong third-set attack notching 13 kills while committing three errors.

Sarah Garfield added five kills and led the Mustangs at the net with three total blocks, while junior libero
Casey Fletcher paced back row efforts with 21 digs.
Midwestern State plays host to Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
