WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Texas A&M-Commerce's Amy Davault delivered a 16-kill, 13-dig effort to help the Lions to a 25-7, 25-23, 26-24 Lone Star Conference win over Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The loss extended the Mustangs' skid to six games as MSU dropped to 7-7 on the season and to 0-6 in league play.
Midwestern begins a five-match road stretch Saturday at Cameron. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Lawton.
The Mustangs struggled greatly on the attack throughout the opening two frames as they committed 11 errors and put down three total kills in the first stanza, but rallied through miscues to extend the Lions to three set points before dropping the second frame.
Senior middle blocker
Caitlin Wallace came on to put down four kills in the third set after attacking just twice in the opening two sets, while senior
Marija Jovanovic had four kills of her own in a nip-and-tuck third set.
But Texas A&M-Commerce claimed three of the final four points to put the match.
Freshman
Sarah Garfield paced the Mustangs with eight kills, while Wallace and senior
Beatriz Villalba paced MSU at the net with four total blocks each.
Junior libero
Casey Fletcher led back row efforts with 14 digs while freshman setter
Alyssa Fulgium added 12.
The Lions improved to 11-2 on the season and to 2-1 in LSC play.
