THE WEEKEND
Midwestern State plays host to Texas Woman's and Texas A&M-Commerce for a pair of important Lone Star Conference matchups this weekend at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs take on TWU Friday night at 7 p.m. before facing off with A&M-C Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State looks to rebound from a four-game skid which coincided with the start of Lone Star Conference play. The Mustangs claimed seven of eight matches from the start of the season including a four-match sweep of the MSU/Hampton Inn-vitational before taking three of four at the Heartland/Lone Star Conference Crossover in Lubbock. MSU suffered a 3-0 sweep to West Texas A&M to start conference before battling No. 9 Angelo State to five sets. Midwestern is coming off of 3-0 setbacks to Tarleton State and Eastern New Mexico. Senior middle blocker Caitlin Wallace continues to lead the LSC with a .372 attack percentage while posting 2.90 kills per set. Sophomore outside hitter Marissa Olivares and senior Beatriz Villalba add 2.39 and 2.09 kills per set, respectively. Junior Kaitlyn Molloy leads defensive efforts averaging 3.00 digs and 0.84 blocks per set. Wallace leads the effort at the net with 0.85 blocks per set while freshman Sarah Garfield adds 0.72. The Mustangs are strong at the back row with junior Casey Fletcher (4.15), sophomore Nicole Marzik (3.42), redshirt freshman Madelyn Johnson (2.85), freshman Alyssa Fulgium (2.82), senior Marjia Jovanovic (2.55) and freshman Sarah Rosinke (2.29) all averaging more than two digs per set.
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Texas Woman's (9-4, 1-0) rolls into the weekend having won six of its last seven matches including an LSC opening 3-1 win over Texas A&M-Commerce. The Pioneers are led by a quartet of attack options including freshman OH Mallory Kuechle (2.30 kps), senior RS Josie Santos (2.24 kps), senior MB Marcela Alves (2.13 kps) and senior MB Chloe' Tate (2.12 kps). Junior Kayla Rivero and freshman Kimberly Bell share setter duties helping TWU to a .195 team attack percentage. The Pioneers are big at the net averaging 2.18 team blocks per set let by Alves (0.96 bps), Tate (0.85 bps) and Santos (0.76 bps). Junior libero Morgan Wilson leads back row efforts with 4.62 digs per set.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State and Texas Woman's meet for the 38th time on the court Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Pioneers own a 22-15 edge in the series, but MSU has won nine of the 17 meetings between the programs played in Wichita Falls. The Pioneers claimed both meetings last season.
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Texas A&M-Commerce (9-2, 0-1) has claimed wins in five of its last six matches with its lone loss in the run coming at Texas Woman's on Sep. 17. The Lions boast the LSC's top attack with a team attack percentage of .235 while putting down 14.31 kills per set. A&M-C is paced by junior OH Amy Davault at 3.44 kills per set, while senior RS Kayla Bond adds 3.30 kills per set followed by junior MB Breanne Snyder and senior OH Ciara Holmes and 2.77 and 2.45 kills per set, respectively. Senior setter Jordan Neal directs the attack with a league leading 11.74 assists per stanza. Bond leads a strong net game for the Lions at 1.05 blocks per set, while Davault leads back row efforts with 3.18 digs per set.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce meet for the 29th time on the court Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Lions lead the overall series by a 16-12 margin, but MSU has claimed seven of the 13 meetings between the programs in Wichita Falls. A&M-Commerce earned a season sweep of the Mustangs last season.
