WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State outlasted No. 7-ranked Texas Woman's University 14-13 in eight innings to claim a Lone Star Conference series win Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park.
The win avenged the worst loss in MSU program history earlier in the afternoon when the Pioneers cruised to a 15-1 run-rule victory in five innings.
The Mustangs moved to 29-12 on the season and to 8-7 in league play, while TWU went o 34-9 and 12-3.
Junior catcher
Kim Jerrick connected on a pair of solo home runs in the fourth and sixth inning while freshman designated player
Katelyn Vinson launched a two-run shot for her 13th bomb of the season in the fifth as Midwestern plated six runs in the fourth, two in the first, third and fifth and another in the sixth.
But TWU's Kendra Sancet highlighted a four-run seventh with a two-run shot to send the game into extra innings tied at 13-13.
Freshman outfielder
Haley Howerton delivered the deciding blow tucking a run-scoring single inside the left-field line to plate
Laci Belovsky, who reached on a leadoff walk and moved to second on Jerrick's intentional pass.
Sophomore third baseman
Kelley Schaefer logged four hits to pace MSU's 14-hit attack while Jerrick went 3-for-4 with a pair of walks. Vinson and
Courtney Bingham added two hits each.
Belovsky endured 12 earned runs on 16 hits with two strikeouts and seven walks to improve to 18-7 in the circle.
Sancet went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in six runs while Jordan Readicker tacked on a three-run homer of her own pace TWU to a 15-1 win in Game 1 Saturday.
Senior pitcher Katie Hines limited the Mustangs to one run on four hits with four strikeouts to improve to 10-2 in the circle for the Pioneers.
Freshman outfielder
Chelsey Wall accounted for the Mustangs' lone run with a solo homer to left field in the third inning, while Jerrick had a pair of doubles to go 2-for-3.
Midwestern State plays host to Texas-Permian Basin Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park in a Swing for the Cure contest. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
