WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Kelley Schaefer belted a pair of home runs to lead 22nd-ranked Midwestern State to a 6-5 win over Cameron Tuesday afternoon in Lone Star Conference play at Mustangs Park.

MSU claimed its seventh straight win and 11th in the last 12 games to improve to 35-12 on the season and to 12-7 in league play while Cameron dropped to 13-26 and 6-13.

Schaefer's 10th homer of the season - a two-run blast to right field - gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as MSU never trailed in the game.

Cameron scratched its first run of the game in the third inning when Tara Martini's double plated Claren Hurlbut to cut Midwestern's lead to 2-1.

The Mustangs answered in the bottom of the frame when
Katelyn Vinson tucked a run-scoring single down the right-field line to score
Courtney Bingham, who reached on a single to left field and stole second base.

The Aggies clawed back to within a run in the fourth on Micah Foutch's RBI-single to left-field to pull within 3-2.

MSU senior catcher
Kim Jerrick extended her hitting streak to 12 games with a run-scoring single to right field to plate Roosmalen to push the advantage back to 4-2 before Cameron answered with Sonora Zukerman's 10th homer of the season in the sixth pull back to within 4-3.

Schaefer led off the bottom of the inning with her 11th homer of the season to center field and Vinson followed with a double to left then scored on a Roosmalen single to bump the advantage to 6-3.

The Aggies plated two more runs in the seventh before
Laci Belovsky finished off her second save of the season.

Freshman Kat Batey improved to 15-5 in the circle allowing three runs - two earned - on three hits in four innings with two strikeouts and a walk before giving way to Belovsky, who allowed two earned runs on four hits over the final three innings.

Haley Howerton joined Bingham, Schaefer, Vinson and Roosmalen who all had two hits to pace the Mustangs' 13-hit attack.

Cameron's Samantha Betts took the loss to fall to 9-12 allowing three runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Midwestern State hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville in its home stand of the season this weekend at Mustangs Park. The teams play a pair of games Friday night at 5 and 7 p.m. before squaring off once on Saturday at noon.
