SAN ANTONIO -- Midwestern State's
Katelyn Vinson pounded out a career-best four hits and drove in five runs to lead the Mustangs to a 10-3 Lone Star Conference win over Incarnate Word in Game 1 Friday afternoon at Cardinal Field.

The freshman from Southlake extended her season-long hitting streak to seven games with a single to center field in the second inning before launching her seventh home run of the season with a three-run shot to left in the third. Vinson added two more run-scoring hits with a single in the fourth and a double in the sixth.

Vinson is 14-of-20 (.700) during the streak with 14 RBIs. She has blasted homers in four of the last six games.

Chelsey Wall gave the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead on a bunt single in the second to plate
Christina Roosmalen, who had reached on a one-out single up the middle and went to third on Vinson's single in the second inning.

MSU extended the lead with five runs in the third highlighted by
Shelby Carter's two-run single before Vinson drilled her three-run shot to give the Mustangs a 6-0 lead on UIW starter Whitney Waltrip, who allowed six runs -- five earned -- on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

Midwestern didn't waste any time getting to Incarnate Word reliever Kandace Patek in the fifth as five consecutive Mustangs reached base with one out as
Kelley Schaefer, Roosmalen and Vinson each delivered RBI singles to push the MSU advantage to 9-0.

Meanwhile, Kat Batey took a no-hit bid into the fourth inning before yielding a two-out infield hit to Kim Hanson as Incarnate Word averted the run-rule and extended the game with two runs in the fifth.

Midwestern pushed the advantage back to eight runs when Vinson's fourth double of the season drove in Roosmalen in the sixth, but the Cardinals scratched out another run in the bottom of the frame to force a seventh inning of play.

Batey notched the win to improve to 9-4 on the season allowing three runs - two earned - on six hits in a complete game.

Roosmalen added three hits while Carter had two as the Mustangs churned out 10-or-more hits for the 20th time this season with 14.

Midwestern State improved to 24-10 on the season and 6-5 in LSC play while the Cardinals dipped to 21-13 and 5-6.
