#1 West Texas A&M sweeps past Mustangs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 1 West Texas A&M swept a pair of slugfests Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park claiming win of 14-12 and 8-6 over Midwestern State.

The losses snapped MSU's 10-game winning streak sending the Mustangs 20-6 on the season and to 4-2 in Lone Star Conference play.

Sophomore third baseman Kelley Schaefer matched a school-record by going 5-for-5 with five RBIs to pace the Mustangs' 15-hit attack in a back-and-forth Game 1.

WT's Mallory Wyatt's two-run single preceded a two-run blast by Lacey Seidl as the Lady Buffs surged to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

The Mustangs rallied for five runs of their own in the bottom of the frame highlighted by Courtney Bingham's two-run single down the left field line.

The Lady Buffs regained the lead by posting three runs in the top of the second and maintained the lead throughout the game despite the teams exchanging runs in each of the final four frames.

Alyssa Lemos and Jessica Sipe tacked on home runs for the Lady Buffs while MSU senior center fielder Elena Bennett tacked on four hits for the Mustangs.

Kat Batey took the loss to fall to 7-3 on the season allowing 11 runs - 10 earned - on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings, while Lauren Heinrich improved to 6-0 taking the decision in relief.

MSU junior catcher Kim Jerrick belted her 10th homer of the season and Carey Campbell slugged her third of the campaign in Game 2 but it wasn't enough to hold off a 12-hit WT attack.

Jerrick and Bennett had two hits apiece to pace MSU's 9-hit attack.

Freshman Laci Belovsky took the loss to snap a personal 10-game winning streak to fall to 13-3. She allowed seven earned runs on 12 hits in the complete game.

Midwestern State hits the road to take on Central Oklahoma Wednesday afternoon in Edmond. First pitch for the twin bill is set for 2 p.m.
