LAKELAND, Fla. – The Midwestern State Mustangs fell 7-2 to Florida Southern to bring a close to their spring break road trip.
The Mustangs (6-4) came into the match ranked 40th by the ITA, while the Mocs (5-5) are ranked 20th.
The Mustangs scored at No. 2 doubles and No. 6 singles.
Kendra Casey and Madeline Schorlemmer defeated Olivia and Victoria Spagnuolo 8-2, and
Fatima Clementino beat Victoria Spagnuolo at No. 6 singles 7-5, 6-1.
In the other doubles play, FSC's Magda Riutort and Sabine Goge, ranked 12th nationally, handed
Taylor Coffman and
Sarita Adhikary an 8-6 loss, while Laura Wichmann and Joalis Dominguez beat Clementino and
Lauren Pineda 8-4 at No. 3.
FSC won five of the singles as well with 11th ranked Riutort beat Coffman 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 1, with 35th ranked Goge handing
Kayla Casey a 6-3, 6-4 loss at No. 2. Dominguez beat Schorlemmer 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 and Christie Nunnemann beat Pineda 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4.
Kendra Casey took her match to three sets at No. 5, but fell to Olivia Spagnuolo 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
MSU is in action again on Wednesday when the Mustangs return to the MSU Tennis Center to host Abilene Christian in Lone Star Conference action.
