LAKELAND, Fla. – The Midwestern State Mustangs closed their Florida spring break trip on a high note as the Mustangs defeated Florida Southern 6-3 at the Wynee Warden Tennis Complex.
The Mustangs (7-3) are ranked 31st in NCAA Division II by the ITA, the Mocs (5-6) are ranked 29th.
Midwestern opened by taking two of the three doubles points, then collected four of the six singles points to take the victory.
MSU's No. 1 team of
Luke Joyce and
Colby Meeks grabbed an 8-5 win over Emanuel Lueber and Benoit Paradis, while the MSU No. 3 squad of
Kacper Boborykin and
Tomas Grejtak downed Carl Lundberg and Robbie Palmiotto 8-6.
The lone doubles point for the Mocs was at No. 2 where Nathan Leavitt and Valdimir Barabash beat
Franko Siljeg and
Kyle Davidson in a tiebreak 9-8 (7-5).
In singles action, Meeks won at No. 2 over Paradis 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, with Davidson at No. 3 shutout Leavitt 6-0, 6-0. Siljeg won at No 4 over Barabash 6-1, 2-6, 6-1, while
Austin Crawford picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Palmiotto at No. 6.
Florida Southern grabbed the No. 1 point as 34th ranked Lueber downed 39th ranked Joyce 6-4, 6-3, and Lundberg downed Boborykin 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5.
MSU is in action again on Wednesday when the Mustangs host Abilene Christian in Lone Star Conference play at the MSU Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
