Midwestern claims 11th straight win, beats back Zias 67-52

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Andrea Carter poured in a season-high 21 points to lead Midwestern State to its 11th straight win taking a 67-52 result over Eastern New Mexico Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs avenged a loss earlier this season at Portales to improve to 18-3 on the season while maintaining its lead in the race for LSC title at 13-2.

Carter completed her 11th double-double of the season pulling down 10 rebounds and made three steals in 27 minutes as the Mustangs took control early.

MSU rushed out to a 12-4 advantage after sophomore guard Shatoia Gober finished off a tradition three-point play just over five minutes into the contest. Gober pushed the Mustangs' advantage to double figures when she turned a steal into a layup to give MSU an 18-8 edge at the 12:22 mark.

Sophomore guard Dianna Jones, who scored 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting off of the bench, keyed a first-half closing 8-0 run with a 3-pointer from the top of the key as the Mustangs took a 36-20 lead into the intermission.

MSU would lead by as many as 23 points in the second half while securing the second longest winning streak in program history.

Junior guard Kirsti Degelia joined Jones with 10 points while Gober and junior forward Skyler Warrick tallied eight points each.

Hannah Altheide and Jordyn Cooper had 11 points each to pace Eastern New Mexico which fell to 5-18 on the season and to 4-11 in LSC play.

Midwestern State plays host to Abilene Christian Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
