WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The No. 38 Midwestern State Mustangs bounced back from their first loss of the season with a pair of victories Saturday at the MSU Tennis Center.
MSU handed No. 50 Dallas Baptist a 7-2 defeat to start the doubleheader, then took down East Central (Okla.) 8-1.
The Mustangs (3-1) dropped only the No. 1 points in both singles and doubles against DBU (4-3).
MSU got wins at No. 2 and No. 3 in doubles as
Taylor Coffman and
Sarita Adhikary downed Leah Rutt and Katie Daugherty 9-7 at No. 2 and Kendra and
Kayla Casey handed Alexa Mentesana and Leah Smith an 8-3 loss at No. 3.
DBU's Amanda Richter and Natalie Gennissen won at No. 1 over MSU's
Lauren Pineda and Madeline Schorlemmer 8-4.
Gennissen then claimed the No. 1 singles over Coffman 6-3, 7-6 (9-7), but that would be it for the Patriots.
Adhikary was victorious at No. 2 against Daugherty 6-0, 7-6 (7-5), as
Kayla Casey beat Rutt 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 and Schorlemmer downed Smith at 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.
Fatima Clementino won at No. 4 for the Mustangs against Richter 7-5, 6-3, as Pineda downed Mentesana 6-0, 6-2.
In the evening, MSU swept the doubles points to cruise by ECU (0-2).
MSU won all three doubles points 8-3 as Coffman/Adhikary beat Marta Valles and Elisabeth Dignard at No. 1, Schorlemmer/Pineda downed Aurelie Rodrigquez and Agostina Moran at No. 2 and the Casey sisters defeated Bernardita Muscillo and Katelin Threet at No. 3.
ECU's Valles beat Coffman 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 for the Tigers only point at No. 1 singles.
Adhikary went three at No. 2 before taking Muscillo 0-6, 6-4, 10-4.
Kayla Casey won at No. 3 over Dignard 6-0, 6-0, with
Kendra Casey winning at No. 4 over Rodriguez 6-1, 6-2.
Schorlemmer downed Moran 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5, with
Laure Morimont beating Kelsey Kerr 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.
MSU is off until Friday when the Mustangs open Lone Star Conference play against Incarnate Word. First serve is 10 a.m. at the MSU Tennis Center.
