Mustangs roll past East Central for third straight win

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State rolled to its third straight win taking a 73-60 decision over East Central (Okla.) Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs claimed their fifth victory in the last six games to improve to 6-3 on the season.

Junior forward Andrea Carter notched her third double-double of the season pouring in a team-high 15 points while pulling down 10 rebounds while connecting on 6-of-7 shots in her second consecutive outing.

The Mustangs utilized a 18-2 run midway through the opening half to seize control of the game after Dilan Webster hit a turnaround jumper from the baseline to give ECU's final lead of the game at 13-11 with 12:30 to go in the first half.

Junior guard Shatoia Gober ignited the run with a jumper in the lane then converted consecutive layups to push the MSU advantage to 21-15 with 7:28 left in the first half. Carter followed with a layup then Kirsti Degelia hit the first of her three 3-pointers to give the Mustnags a 26-15 advantage.

The Mustangs led by as many as 14 in the opening half before taking a 32-20 lead into the break.

MSU stretched the advantage to 37-20 after Carter completed a three-point play just over a minute into the second half.

East Central clawed back to within in six points after Ashley Robison buried a trey with 13 minutes to play to pull the Lady Tigers to within 45-39.

But the Mustangs answered with a pair of 3-pointers from Degelia during a 10-0 run to push the lead back to 55-39 with just under 10 minutes to play.

Degelia and Gober finished with 12 points each while junior guard Dianna Jones finished with eight points and six assists.

Webster paced ECU with 14 points, Erin Walling had 13 and Robinson pitched in 12 points as the Lady Tigers dipped to 5-4.

Midwestern State hits the road to take on Texas-Permian Basin Wednesday night at the Falcon Dome in Odessa. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
