Williams, Plummer pace Mustangs past Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Monzaigo Williams and DeJuan Plummer poured in 16 points each to lead 13th-ranked Midwestern State to an 82-64 win over Missouri Western Saturday night in the Hillyard Classic at the MWSU Fieldhouse.

The Mustangs improved to 4-0 by sweeping its second straight classic on the road.

MSU plays Science & Arts (Okla.) Friday night in its home opener a D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Midwestern took control of the game with a 9-2 run highlighted by consecutive buckets by senior guard Cam Adderley on a layup and 3-pointer then Williams culminated the run with a runner in the lane as the Mustangs extended a one-point advantage into a 34-26 lead with 5:03 remaining in the first half.

MSU would push the bulge to 44-33 at halftime and led by as many as 22 points in the second half.

Williams connected on 5-of-12 shots from the field including three 3-pointers to finish with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists while Plummer stayed hot with a 6-of-9 shooting effort including three treys of his own to net 16 points in 25 minutes off of the bench.

Senior forwards Eddie D'Haiti and Derek Kaster finished with 11 points and eight rebounds each while Adderley hit on 4-of-5 shots for nine points. Junior swingman Xavier Blackburn pitted in eight points in reserve.

Cortrez Colbert dropped in 18 points and Cedric Clinkscales notched 17 points to lead Missouri Western as the Griffons fell to 3-2 on the season.
