Midwestern beats down Javelinas, 43-10

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State ran off the final 23 points to roll away with a 43-10 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

The Mustangs' third consecutive moved the team to 3-1 on the season and to 2-1 in league play, while the Javelinas dropped to 2-2 and 0-2.

MSU turned a four Javelinas' turnovers into 20 points while limiting the TAMUK offense to 186 total yards and just 47 in the decisive second half.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs' offense hummed its way to 427 yards on the strength of a pair of 100-yard efforts as senior Keidrick Jackson topped the century mark for the third consecutive week with 115 yards on 26 carries with three touchdowns, while redshirt freshman Dante Taylor churned out his second 100-yard effort of his own needing 10 carries to run for 100 yards.

MSU jumped out out to a 10-0 lead after Statron Jones snared a 16-yard post route with 8:18 to go in the first half, then Jackson crashed in for his first touchdown of the game on a 7-yard sweep five minutes into the second quarter.

Midwestern's Greg Saladino started the half with a 36-yard field goal and ended it with a successful 30-yard try as the Mustangs carried a 20-3 edge into the half.

Texas A&M-Kingsville seized the momentum in the second half as Caleb Buford scored from a yard out after the Mustangs turned over the ball on a fumble at their own 25-yard line on the opening drive of the second half.

That was all the momentum the Mustangs would allow.

Jackson culminated a 12-play, 75-yard dire with his second TD carry of the game (1) to push the lead to 27-10, then the Mustangs added a score on a safety when Cam Williams pounced on Bedford, who had picked up his own fumble in the end zone to push the lead to 29-10 with 2:41 to play in the third quarter.

Midwestern put in two more touchdowns on runs by Jackson (3) and Brandon Gordon (39) in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore WHIP Marqui Christian led the defensive effort with a career-high 15 tackles, while sophomore linebacker Daniel Laudermilk had 10.

Midwestern State plays host to McMurry Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
