SCOUTING THE LIONS
Texas A&M-Commerce recovered from a two-game skid claiming results over Texas Woman's and Oklahoma Christian last week at home. Freshman forward Savannah Henderson and sophomore forward Jade Bell tallied goals within the opening 22 minutes of play in a 2-0 win over TWU on Friday then six different players found the back of the net in a dominating 6-0 victory Sunday over Oklahoma Christian. Henderson leads the A&M-Commerce attack with six goals and five assists while Bell and fellow sophomore forward Anitra Wright add three goals each. Senior forward Brionna Minde continues to be a force for the Lions with two goals and five assists. Freshman goalkeeper Callie Ballard boasts a 0.76 goals against average with four shutouts in 10 starts between the posts.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce meet for the 29th time on the pitch Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field. The Mustangs hold a 17-8-3 advantage in the series that dates back to MSU's first match in program history in 1995. Midwestern is 8-2-2 all time against the Lions on its home pitch and has claimed the last seven meeting between the teams dating back to the 2008 campaign.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Texas Woman's is 1-4-1 over its last six games heading into its weekend trip which begins Friday night at Angelo State. The Pioneers lone victory over the run, ironically, came against LSC leading Angelo State by a 2-1 margin two weeks ago in Denton. Thirteen different players have scored goals for TWU this season led by freshman forward Alisa Velasquez, who has logged four goals and three assists for the Pioneers. Junior forward Emily Davila and freshman Gabrielle Larson have scored three times while senior defender Tareyn Blanton contributes two tallies. Junior Lindsey Sisco allows a 1.40 goals against average with a .772  save percentage in 837 minutes and 10 starts as TWU's primary goalkeeper.

Midwestern State and Texas Woman's meet for the 15th time on the pitch Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field. The Mustangs own a 10-2-2 edge in the series which dates back to the 2002 season. Midwestern is 6-1 against the Pioneer in games played in Wichita Falls.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State enters weekend play on a role as the Mustangs have peeled off a 7-1-1 run over its last nine matches after opening the season dropping two of its first three. Lone Star Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Ashley Cottrell continues to pace the MSU attack. The sophomore from Arlington has six goals and three assists, but has received some scoring help with the emergence of senior midfielder Tatyanny Griffiths, who knocked two of her three goals at Texas A&M-Commerce. Junior Katy Catney joins sophomores Kensli Pounds and Morgan Hannon with two goals each. Senior Kallie Essary boasts a 0.74 goals against average with an .845 save percentage while posting four shutouts in 12 starts between the posts.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Junior midfielder Katy Catney drilled in a free kick just below the crossbar from 25 yards out in the 84th minute to lead Midwestern State to a 1-0 win over West Texas A&M Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field. It was Catney's fourth career goal against the Lady Buffs. Senior goalkeeper Kallie Essary made three saves to preserve her fourth clean sheet of the season.
 
LAST TIME OUT VS. TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE (Oct. 6, 2013)
Senior midfielder Tatyanny Griffiths converted a penalty kick with one second remaining in the first overtime to lift MSU to a 3-2 over then-No. 24 Texas A&M-Commerce. Griffiths finished with two goals, while sophomore defender Alex Edwards notched the equalizer with her first collegiate goal in the 79th minute.
 
LAST TIME OUT VS. TEXAS WOMAN'S (Oct. 4, 2013)
Sophomore forward Ashley Cottrell converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute to lift MSU to a 1-0 win over Texas Woman's in Denton. Senior goalkeeper Kallie Essary made four stops to complete her third shutout of the season.
 
THE LSC RACE
Midwestern State remains alone in second place in the race for the Lone Star Conference championship with 10 points and is 3-1-1 in league play. Angelo State leads the way with a 4-1 mark and 10 points followed by MSU, Texas A&M-Commerce (2-2-1, 7 points), Eastern New Mexico (1-2-2, 5 points), West Texas A&M (1-3-1, 4 points) and Texas Woman's (1-3-1, 4 points).
 
MIDWESTERN IN NATIONAL STATISTICAL RANKINGS
Senior goalkeeper Kallie Essary ranks 47th in NCAA Division II in goals against average (0.74), is 54th in save percentage (0.845) and is 99th in total saves (49). Sophomore forward Ashley Cottrell ranks 76th in total goals (6.0) and 96th in total points (14.0).
