Mustangs roll to seventh straight win, pound Cameron 69-49

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State wasted little time asserting its will in rolling to its seventh consecutive win taking a 69-49 decision Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs improved to 14-3 with the victory while moving to 9-2 to remain at the top fo the Lone Star Conference standings.

Junior guard Kirsti Degelia maintained her solid shot making abilities with a team-high 14 points, but with starting point guard Dianna Jones missing her second game due injury she also picked up her play making abilities.

The Krum product dished out season-high eight assists to go along with teammate Ashley Rush's five-assist night as the Mustangs notched assists on 21 of their 30 buckets.

Sophomore forward Shambreka Jones enjoyed her best outing of the season knocking down 6-of-8 shots to finish with 13 points and five rebounds while sophomore guard Shatoia Gober was a board shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Jones keyed an 8-0 run near the end of the first half with three layups as the Mustangs were able to build 28-20 lead with 2:44 to go in the opening half.

The Mustangs gradually extended the lead in the second half expanding the lead to a game-high 25 points when Andrea Carter hit a jumper in the lane for a 69-44 lead with 1:19 to play.

Carter finished the game with nine points and six rebounds, while junior forward Skyler Warrick added eight points and sophomore guard Lisa Hampton pitched in six off of the bench.

Brittany Harris and Chelsea Stamp had 10 points each to pace the Aggies, who fell to 4-13 and 3-8.

The Mustangs play host to Incarnate Word Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
