LAWTON, Okla. -- Midwestern State faced some bad news Wednesday night as starting point
Dianna Jones missed her second game with an ankle injury.
That only proved to be even worse news for the Cameron Aggies.
The Mustangs committed a season-low five turnovers and used the offensive efficiency to come away with a 65-52 decision for their season-best sixth consecutive win.
"It's a mental game when you play on the road," MSU coach
Noel Johnson said. "I think the girls are really starting to get in the groove just in time to come home."
MSU improved to 13-3 on the season and to 8-2 in Lone Star Conference play. The Mustangs now close the regular season with eight of 10 games on their home floor at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Kirsti Degelia battled her way to a 14-point, 5-assist night while
Shatoia Gober and
Skyler Warrick added 14 points each. Sophomore forward
Andrea Carter notched her ninth double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
"In the second half, we had a little more energy," Johnson said. "The kids played hard and had a great defensive effort. And when you have four players in double figures, you're having a good night."
Warrick poured in 11 points in a spurt of 4:11 to propel the Mustangs out to a 23-17 edge with 6:32 to go until halftime the Degelia tallied eight straight points to close the half to push the MSU advantage to 34-24 at the half.
Cameron's Chelsea Stamp and Hannah Pollart bombed in back-to-back 3-pointers at the start of the second half to pull the Aggies back within four at 34-30.
But the Mustangs countered by scoring the next nine points and led 43-30 when
Ashley Rush buried a trey from the left corner with 43-30 to give MSU total control of the contest.
Stamp rained in three 3s to finish as Cameron's lone double-digit performer with 13 points.
Cameron makes the return trip to Wichita Falls to face the Mustangs on Saturday afternoon under the dome. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
