Mustangs suffer tough loss to Eastern New Mexico, 1-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Eastern New Mexico cashed on an opportunistic bounce to come away with a 1-0 win over Midwestern State Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.

ENMU senior midfielder Danielle Thurman was in the right place at the right time in the 9th minute. Angela Sandoval had worked the ball to the touchline on the right wing and served a crossing pass in front of the goal that MSU senior goalkeeper Mallory Whitworth attempted to punch out of danger.

But the ball deflected off of our hands directly Thurman who found the wide open net for the lone score of the game.

Midwestern dominated the run of play at least doubling up the Zias in every statistical category including an 18-9 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks while committing 15 fouls to seven for ENMU.

But the Mustangs generated just four shots on goal and all were saved by ENMU freshman goalkeeper Xan Ortiz, who notched her third shutout of the season.

Midwestern concludes its three-game home stand Wednesday against Abilene Christian at the MSU Soccer Field. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
