SATURDAY... No. 15 Midwestern State (1-1, 1-1) is out to make it two in a row on the young season as they visit South Texas to face the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas (2-1, 1-1) in a key Lone Star Conference contest. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS…
Texas A&M-Kingsville is coming off a 40-10 loss to West Texas A&M at the Lone Star Football Festival last Saturday. The loss knocked the Hoggies from the AFCA Division II Top 25, but they remain No. 23 in the D2Football.com poll (MSU is No. 16 in that poll). The Hoggies are led by the combination of senior All-America running back
Jonathan Woodson, who is coming into the game averaging 48.0 yards a carry, and quarterback
Nate Poppell, a senior who is nearing several A&M-Kingsville passing records and is currently averaging 239.7 yards a game with a 123.75 efficiency rating. Senior receiver
Sherman Batiste is Poppell's favorite target, with 19 receptions for 245 yards in three games -- an 81.7 yard average. Defensively, the Javelinas are paced by senior All-America linebacker
Jeremy Aguilar who has 22 tackles (7.3 per game). The Hoggies have also intercepted three passes this season. Texas A&M-Kingsville is coached by
Bo Atterberry who comes into the contest with a 37-23 record in six years.
All-Time Series: Midwestern State leads the series, 7-6, Midwestern has won six of the last seven games.

The Mustangs moved up to No. 15 in the latest AFCA Division II Coaches Poll. They were No. 16 last week after opening the season No. 4.

MSU has been ranked in the last 13 polls (including seven in the Top 10), in 35 of the last 40 polls and has received a vote in 74 of the last 75 AFCA coaches polls.

Junior cornerback Neiko Conway is the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his play against A&M-Commerce. He recovered two fumbles and intercepted a pass for a touchdown.

Neiko Conway’s 32-yard interception return for a touchdown gave the Houston junior the MSU record for career interception return yardage.

Conway now has 182 interception return yards on seven interceptions (the seven picks are fifth all-time).

With the new artificial turf at Kingsville, Midwestern will not play a regular season game on a grass field in 2012.

Ricardo Riascos 12-yard interception return for a touchdown, his first collegiate score. He now has two on the season in two games to lead the LSC at 1.0 per game.

The winningest coach in MSU history, Bill Maskill won his 80th game at Midwestern with the win over A&M-Commerce. Maskill is 80-33 in his 11th season at MSU, 93-41 in his 13th season as a head coach.

Midwestern has been golden in the months of August and September under coach Bill Maskill. MSU is 38-8 (.826) in games played before Oct. 1 in the Maskill era. In fact, since 2006, the Mustangs are 27-2 before Oct. 1.

The Mustangs return five All-Americans from 2011. Quarterback Brandon Kelsey was fourth in the Harlan Hill voting and was third team on the Don Hansen squad and honorable mention by the Beyond Sports College Network. Guard Ken Van Heule was second team on the Hansen and third team on the BSCN team. Running back Keidrick Jackson was an honorable mention on both the D2Football.com and Hansen teams.
