No. 34 Mustangs snap streak with 5-4 win over No. 39 East Central

ADA, Okla. – The 34th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs took it to the limit before pulling out a 5-4 win over 39th ranked East Central (Okla.) on Saturday at the ECU Tennis Courts.

The Mustangs (6-8) snapped a five-match losing streak with the win against the Tigers (4-5) on the road.

MSU trailed 2-4 in the match when a trio of Mustangs made a charge to claim the win.

Kacper Boborykin came through at No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Doyle Springett to start the roll, winning six straight games after trailing 3-0 in the second set.

Jarrod Liston picked up his second point of the day at No. 5 with a three-set triumph over Victor Blasco 7-6, 5-7, 6-3.

Then Colby Meeks came through with a three-set win at No. 3 over Julian Caminos 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 to take the match.

"We had a strong match from (Mario) Urban in singles, and then great finishes by Liston, Meeks and Boborykin," said Coach Scott Linn.  "Meeks did a great job of changing his normal game to win the third set."

Mario Urban had little trouble in taking the No. 2 singles point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Carlos Muro.

Midwestern got started by claiming the No. 1 doubles point as Liston and Tomas Grejtak took out Stefan Stein and Springett 8-5.

MSU dropped points at the other two doubles spots as Urban and Meeks lost at No. 2 to Blasco and Julian Caminos 8-6, while Luke Joyce and Boborykin dropped the No. 3 point to Marc Fillat and Muro 8-3.

MSU fell at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, as Joyce lost to Stein 6-3, 7-5 at the top and Grejtak fell to Fillat 7-5, 6-2 at the fourth.

"We got a great start by Liston/Grejtak and it really set the tone," said Linn.

The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday with a road double-header in Abilene, as MSU meets Hardin-Simmons in the morning before facing Abilene Christian in a Lone Star Conference match in the evening.
