WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Eastern New Mexico legged out 12 singles to send Midwestern State to its fourth consecutive loss by a 6-3 margin in both teams Lone Star Conference opener Friday afternoon at Mustangs Park.
The teams close out a three-game set with a doubleheader Saturday at Mustangs Park. First pitch is set for noon.
Eastern New Mexico broke out to an early lead on Melissa Reynosa's run scoring single down the right-field line to plate Amanda Lale in the second inning before the Mustangs rallied in the third.
Junior outfielder
Courtney Bingham drilled her 10th double of the season before scoring on
Mallory Mooney's single to right field to knot the game at 1-1.
The teams exchanged runs in the fifth inning with the Zias scoring an unearned run on Katie Ramsey's single to the left field before MSU re-tied the game on
Kim Jerrick's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame.
Eastern New Mexico took advantage of two MSU fielding miscues to take control of the game with three more unearned tallies in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.
The Mustangs pulled to within two runs in the bottom of the sixth as NIcki Duff tripled to lead off the inning then scored on
Christina Roosmalen's double to left.
Freshman
Lindsi Glenn (9-8) took the loss for the Mustangs allowing six runs - two earned - on 12 hits with three walks and a strikeout.
Bingham led MSU at the plate by going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs scored to raise her season average to .538, while Roosmalen went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Amy Smith improved to 3-4 on the season allowing three runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts in six innings. Ramsay pitched a scoreless seventh to earn her first save of the season.
The Mustangs fell to 10-10 on the season and to 0-1 in LSC play while Eastern New Mexico improved to 5-10 and 1-0.
