No. 19 MSU women drop season opening matches

The 19th ranked Midwestern State Mustangs had a disappointing opening to the 2012 season, dropping a pair of matches in Central Texas.
 
The Mustangs opened the season with a 6-0 loss at Division I Texas-San Antonio on Friday, then lost to St. Edward's 6-3 in San Marcos on Saturday.
 
The Mustangs travel to San Antonio next weekend to face Laredo Community College on Friday, followed by a Lone Star Conference match against Incarnate Word on Saturday.

Midwestern was swept by the Roadrunners in all sets, but forced tiebreakers twice.
 
The Mustangs lost the one doubles point in the Division I format, falling at all three positions.
 
The No. 2 doubles team of Lindsey Holcomb and Sarita Adhikary force a tie break against UTSA's Micaela Silva and Vivian Carrillo 8-7 after losing the tiebreak 7-5.
 
The Mustangs No. 1 doubles team of Rozike van Rensburg and Kendra Casey lost to Isabelle Jonsson and Stefanie Peana 8-5, while the No. 3 team of Taylor Coffman and Lindsey Buenger lost 8-4 to Kavya Menon and Natalie Hand.
 
In singles action, the closest match was never finished.
 
Taylor Coffman at No. 5 lost to Hand 7-6 in the first set after a 7-2 tiebreaker, but had a 3-1 lead when the match was halted.
 
UTSA had claimed the rest of the singles, with Peana beating van Rensburg 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1, Jonsson over Holcomb 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2, Silva over Adhikary 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, Menon over Casey 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 and Irene Gandara Gonzalez beating Buenger 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.

The Mustangs dropped two of the three doubles matches in extended play and it carried over to the singles as MSU lost 6-3 to the Hilltoppers.
 
MSU's 18th ranked doubles team of Rozike van Rensburg and Kendra Casey took down Mary Bain and Heather Brien 8-6.
 
But SEU got extended point wins at No. 2 doubles when Lindsey Holcomb and Sarita Adhikary dropped a 9-8 decision to Paige Rachel and Rafaela Haegele, as the No. 3 squad of Taylor Coffman and Lindsey Buenger lost 9-7 to Alexandra Khadhyzan and Francesca Chahor.
 
Adhikary and Coffman provided wins for MSU in singles.
 
Playing at No. 3, Adhikary beat Summer Biggs 6-0, 3-6, 6-2, while Coffman at No. 5 beat Bain 6-4, 6-3.
 
One of the heartbreaks for the Mustangs came at No. 1 singles, van Rensburg battled back to win a tiebreak in the second set, but fell in the final set as Khadhyzan to a 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 victory.
 
Holcomb lost at No. 2 to Rachel 6-0, 6-3, as Casey at No. 4 fell to Haegele 6-3, 6-0.
 
Buenger lost at No. 6 to Brien 6-2, 6-4.
