WICHITA FALLS, Texas - No. 7 Midwestern State put the clamps on Central Oklahoma to roll to a 69-48 win Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
It was the Mustangs' sixth consecutive win to improve to 22-2 on the season, while the Bronchos had their five-game winning streak come to an end to fall to 14-11.
Now, MSU can focus on clinching an outright Lone Star Conference championship with a pair of wins next week after Tarleton State suffered a 62-53 loss Saturday night at West Texas A&M.
The Mustangs travel to Canyon to face the Buffs Wednesday night at First United Bank Center before closing the regular season against at home Saturday against Eastern New Mexico.
MSU made this one a laugher early by scoring the first seven points of the game and limited the Bronchos to a measily16 points in the opening half which were the fewest since holding Southeastern Oklahoma to 10 points on Dec. 12, 2009 at Durant.
Senior forward
Darrick Thomas tallied seven of the Mustangs' first 10 points and finished the night going 8-for-10 from the field for 19 points while grabbing nine rebounds.
The Mustangs controlled the second half and led by as many as 23 points when
Chris Buttermore tapped in a miss to give MSU a 69-46 lead.
Midwestern enjoyed a stellar shooting night hitting at a 52.5 percent clip from the field (21-for-40) and 70 percent from the charity stripe (21-of-30).
Senior guard
Michael Loyd added 13 points, four rebounds and four assists while junior guard
JaMichael Rivers pitched in 10 points and three assists.
Spencer Smith paced Central Oklahoma with 17 points including a pair of 3-pointers.
