WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State converted a controversial touch call in the opening set and rode the momentum to a 29-27, 26-24, 25-19 sweep of Cameron in Lone Star Conference play Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs have won three of the last four to improve to 7-22 on the season and to 5-14 in league play, but MSU has already been eliminated from postseason consideration.
Junior outside hitter/setter
Courtney Haney's attack glanced off of a CU middle blocker's hands at the net to stave off the Aggies' second set point of the stanza.
Junior middle blocker
Michelle Blount gave the Mustangs their second shot at set point which was put away by
Kasey Decker to give the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage.
The Mustangs pushed away a pair of set points in the second frame on a kill by Blount and a ball handling error to set the score at 24-24.
Sophomore middle blocker
Kasey Decker took care of an over pass followed by sophomore libero
Casey Fletcher's second service ace of the contest to give the Mustangs a commanding 2-0 lead.
Senior outside hitter
Shelbi Stewart and junior middle blocker
Caitlin Wallace combined for 11 kills in the final set to secure the victory for the Mustangs.
Stewart paced the MSU attack with 14 kills while committing just a pair of errors in 30 attacks for a .400 hitting percentage. Wallace tagged on nine kills and five blocks while
Beatriz Villalba joined Decker with eight kills each.
Fletcher paced back row effort with 25 digs.
Freshman outside hitter Kathryn Evans put down 17 kills to lead the Aggies, who fell to 10-21 and 4-15.
