WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State running back
Chauncey Harris was selected as one of the three Lone Star Conference Offensive Players of the Week after his stellar performance in the final regular season contest against West Georgia.
Harris, a 5-9, 171 pound sophomore from San Antonio/Converse Judson, posted the best rushing game in the Lone Star Conference since 2009 and the best at Midwestern State since 2007 as he rushed for 232 yards and two touchdowns in the Mustangs 35-17 win over the Wolves.
Harris ran for 169 yards in the second half alone on his way to posting the fourth-best rushing game in MSU history and the best by running back. It was the most yardage by a Midwestern runner since quarterback Daniel Polk ran for 290 yards against Abilene Christian on Nov. 10, 2007.
Harris posted touchdown runs of 21 and 31 yards for the Mustangs and added non-scoring runs of 28, 25, 21 and 39 yards as he averaged 14.5 yards on his 16 carries. He also had one pass reception for 12 yards. Harris led the Pony Express ground game to the second-best team rushing effort in school history with 470 yards, the best in the LSC since Eastern New Mexico's 488 against East Central on Sept. 15, 2007.
MSU's third-leading rusher in total yardage on the season, Harris averages 85.9 yards a game with his 773 yards in nine contests with six touchdowns.
He is joined by Abilene Christian quarterback Mitchell Gale, who completed 25-of-36 passes for 408 yards against Incarnate Word and Tarleton State quarterback Jake Fenske who broke the TSU record with 460 yards over Angelo State.
The LSC Defensive Player of the Week is ACU's Justin Stephens and Tarleton kicker Blake Barnes.
