WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's Pony Express churned out 470 yards to carry the Mustangs to a 35-17 win over West Georgia in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
MSU, which ends the regular season at 9-1, awaits NCAA Division II playoff selection Sunday afternoon. The selection broadcasts on NCAA.com beginning at 4 p.m.
Sophomore running back
Chauncey Harris burst for a career-high 232 yards on 16 carries including bookend touchdown runs of 21 and 31 yards. The rushing total was the fourth most in a single game in MSU program history and the most by someone other than Daniel Polk who posted the top three rushing games with 290-, 259- and 244-yard performances.
Harlon Hill candidate
Keidrick Jackson posted his seventh 100-yard rushing effort of the season with 104 yards on 17 carries before exiting the game at half time including a 1-yard TD run for his 19th rushing score of the season in the second quarter.
Senior quarterback
Brandon Kelsey added to the three-headed attack running for 99 yards on 10 carries with a 46-yard scoring run to open the second quarter.
Midwestern dominated the opening half and held its largest lead at 28-3 when redshirt-freshman running back
Roderick Woodard scored from a yard out with 6:28 to go in the third quarter.
But West Georgia battled back on TD runs by Seth Hinsley (11) and Austin Treanor (2) to close the MSU lead to 28-17 with 11:15 to play.
The Mustangs put the game away with Harris' 31-yard touchdown run with 1:18 to play.
The Mustangs rolled up 513 yards of offense as the 470 team rushing yards were the second most in school history.
West Georgia racked up 336 total yards including 187 on the ground and 149 passing.
Seth Hinsley paced the Wolves with 86 yards on 15 carries, while David Bailey run for 69 yards on 17 carries.
West Georgia closes the season at 3-7.
