ABILENE, Texas -- Midwestern State suffered losses to Abilene Christian and Texas-Permian Basin Friday afternoon in the Whitten Classic at Moody Coliseum.
The losses sent the Mustangs 4-14 on the season including a Lone Star Conference setback to ACU to drop them to 2-7.
Midwestern closes the weekend with a non-conference tilt Saturday at Dallas Baptist. First service at Burg Center is set for 7 p.m.
Sophomore middle blocker
Kasey Decker put down 11 kills to lead the Mustangs in an opening 25-14, 27-25, 25-23 loss to Abilene Christian, while senior outside hitter
Shelbi Stewart added seven kills of her own.
The Wildcats (5-11, 2-6) used a 17-kill performance by Sara Oxford to snap a five-game skid as ACU notched a strong .269 team hitting percentage while forcing the Mustangs into 25 attack errors.
Sophomore libero
Casey Fletcher paced MSU's back row efforts with 14 digs, while junior setter/outside hitter
Courtney Haney had 17 set assists and nine digs.
Junior middle blocker
Caitlin Wallace blitzed Texas-Permian Basin with a team-high 16 kills while Haney narrowly missed her second triple-double of the season with 11 kills, 18 set assists and eight digs but the Falcons came away with the 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23 win in the nightcap.
UTPB (6-10) was led by Melissa Lusk's 16-kill, 6-block performance while Keeley Brogdon and Jamie Rodell added 12 kills each.
Stewart put down eight kills without an error in 33 attacks while Fletcher posted a career-best 32 digs in the loss.
